What we do with the CICS Program …

  • Create a structured COBOL program for each CICS program using automated tools.

  • Copybooks are converted and retain the same identity.

  • All comments in the original code can be carried through to the migrated code.

  • Copybooks are inserted for the SQLCA and additional working storage areas including record areas, work areas, screen buffer areas, and necessary SQL and CICS areas.

What about the map definition and I/O …

  • Each BMS MAP set is converted to native AS/400 DDS screen specifications, and a Cobol Screen Handler that duplicates CICS screen map processing.

  • All BMS field names are retained and converted to an AS/400 Cobol counterpart.

  • PF key feedback, cursor feedback and positioning, and screen field attributes are converted to retain the "look and feel" of the original transaction.

  • The original screen layouts are preserved, and the conversion is transparent to the user. No changes in input method are required.

    And what about navigation …

  • Navigation throughout the application is maintained.

  • A traffic cop manages program-to-program flow.

  • CICS statements for invoking the next dialogue are converted return to the traffic cop to call the next program.

  • Program to program communication is maintained.
